How we help

Careful testing, clear next steps

Skin & blood testing

Identifies which specific foods your immune system is reacting to.

Component testing

More detailed testing that can help clarify borderline results.

Supervised oral food challenges

In-office challenges, done under supervision with emergency medications on hand, to confirm or rule out a true allergy.

Oral immunotherapy (select cases)

A gradual, supervised approach considered for some patients based on their history and goals.

Common triggers

Foods we commonly test for

Nine foods cause most allergic reactions: milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish, and sesame. Reactions range from hives and stomach upset to anaphylaxis — and a positive skin or blood test alone doesn't always mean a true allergy, which is why evaluation pairs testing with your reaction history before anything is ruled in or out.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How is a food allergy diagnosed?

A detailed reaction history, then targeted skin or blood testing — and when results are unclear, a supervised oral food challenge in our office is the most reliable way to confirm or rule out an allergy.

Is a food allergy the same as a food intolerance?

No. Intolerances (like lactose intolerance) are uncomfortable but don't involve the immune system. A true food allergy can cause serious reactions and deserves an evaluation.

Are food challenges safe?

They are done in our office under supervision, with emergency medications ready.

My child reacted to a food once. Should they just avoid it?

Not necessarily — some reactions aren't allergic, and some allergies are outgrown. Testing can clarify whether avoidance is needed, so kids don't give up foods unnecessarily.

Do you see children?

Yes — infants, kids, and adults.

Is it covered by insurance?

We work with most major plans — contact us to verify.
